Sourdough: The Basics

This class is suitable for all levels of sourdough bakers – whether you're familiar with what a sourdough starter is, the thought of having a sourdough starter in your home overwhelms you, you've already tried baking a handful of loaves, or you've been baking for a couple of years, this class has something to offer everyone.

In this class:
  • Learn how to make sourdough at home from start to finish
  • Learn how to start and maintain a sourdough starter
  • Learn how to mix, work and shape your own dough
  • Discuss the importance of ingredients and proper equipment
What to expect:
  • A meal that we will work together to prepare
  • A hands-on class where you can do as you learn (dress comfortably and ready to cook!)
  • A sourdough starter for you to take home and feed
  • A 100+ page cookbook about baking sourdough at home in Alberta
  • A loaf of sourdough to take home

Please note: We do our best to cover the recipes listed, but recipes are subject to change and will be replaced with something similar based on availability of ingredients.

If classes have to be cancelled due to government restrictions being put in place or if Awn Kitchen feels it is unsafe to continue teaching, please note that no refunds will be given and credits will be issued. Awn Kitchen has implemented measures to protect our community while keeping our doors open. These include a strict cleaning and sanitizing schedule and ensuring that all our staff are fully vaccinated.

Awn Kitchen requires a minimum of six participants to run a class, should class numbers drop below six, credits will be issued.
